I Wish I Was
"Many cities are full of vacant storefronts and people who need things. What if we could easily voice what we want, where we want it?"
So says Candy Chang an installation artist, designer, urban planner and co-founder of Civic Centre who likes to make cities a more comfortable and nicer place for people to live in. We could do with a girl like her over here in Ireland. With thousands of empty shops and buildings popping up all over the country her project “I Wish I Was” could make a positive impact. Or at least let people get their frustrations off their chests. This project features fill-in-the-blank stickers that say “I wish this was ____.” Anyone can fill them out and stick them on abandoned buildings and beyond. You can buy these vinyl stickers online and if you send her photos of your stickers by email she is hoping to make them into a book.
It’s depressing to pass so many failed projects as I cycle through Dublin city. So many mistakes made in the past and they still don’t seem to learn. Tearing down beautiful old buildings and replacing them with cheap shoddy glass boxes or “Units” as they call them. It would be interesting to see what people would like these spaces to be and you never know somebody might even listen.
Oh and these vinyl stickers can removed easily without leaving a mark like the residue of normal paper stickers, just in case your wondering.
